ActionScript 3.0 Basics

When I was deciding what topics I wanted to write about for my blog I had a hard time determining the difficulty of the tutorials. As a result I thought I would do an intro to ActionScript 3 tutorial before diving into more advanced code.

In this tutorial we will use look at the basic structure of an AS3 document, how it connects to Flash and how it gets compiled. You will need a copy of Flash CS3 or Flash CS4; if you don’t have this you can get a 30 day trial version from Adobe.

My history with the Amazon Associate
Program

After working with the Amazon Associates Program for 11 years, Amazon fires all of their Colorado Associates because of House Bill 10-1193. Rather than ranting about the situation I started thinking about my history with Amazon.com. It starts with an expensive domain name, includes a lawsuit threat from Cisco, multiple domain names and ends with a store front being removed.

How I Design Web sites

My design process usually starts out with a sketch of my design. This article talks about my design process for my blog. I had to think hard about what items I wanted to include, then I went through multiple sketches of the design. Once in Photoshop I started with a wireframe and added different color combinations to see what works and what doesn’t.

Hello world!

When learning a new programming language the first program that one typically writes prints out the phrase “Hello, World” on the screen. This tradition started in the 70s with a C programming language tutorial. Well, here is my “Hello, World” of blogging.

I have been developing web pages for over 15 years now, starting when I was 11. Today I am the Webmaster for the University of Northern Colorado and the web developer for few classical music web sites. When I graduated from UNC with a degree in Music Performance I decided that I wanted to go into web development. My primary site was (and still is) FluteInfo.com, and while it still receives about 1000 hits a day, I don’t feel as connected to it since I no longer play the flute.
